    in this file "C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20 17 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\defaults\MAX\CurrentDefaults.ini" check this :

    InputGamma=2.200000
    OutputGamma=2.200000

    When you import old files (with gamma 1.0) max ask you for according gamma to system, adopt system gamma (2.2).

          whatever it was causing it , playing with these setting did fix it. not both viewports match. Enabling Lux is optional right?

            Is optionnal but all what you touch in max affect both, RT and prod.

            And yes, default settings are good.

                Hey guys, I dont know about enableling gamma/lut correction. Ever since I enabled it, all my renders are coming out too dark and saturated. I did some reading around and its not only me. Lots of others hate enableling it aswell. Seems like it causes more of a headache. Is it because my model was done using a older version of 3ds2014? If i disable it, my render comes out good like before. Any input is appreciated.

                  Enabling Gamma and adjust lights and cameras settings.

                  Also maybe reload your bitmaps to change input gamma.

                    This has thrown me off but im getting the hang of it. You mean inside the fstorm naterial? The gamma setting there, change that?

                      I wanted to know if its settings are correct (in the currentdefaults file) 3dsmax?

                      [Gamma]
                      DisplayGamma=1.000000
                      Enable=1
                      DisplayCorrectionMode=2
                      CorrectColorPickerState=1
                      CorrectMtlEditorState=1
                      InputGamma=1.000000
                      OutputGamma=1.000000
                      LUTFileName=

                        No, it is not.
                        you should use gamma 2.2 everywhere::
                        DisplayGamma=2.2
                        InputGamma=2.2
                        OutputGamma=2.2

                          This the first time I have ran into this gamma issue. Never really messed with it.ive used maxwell,vray,keyshot,thea and never had this tone color difference. Ill have to study this more.

                            Thats what i have now. But everything is darker. :/

                              Yeah, inside select bitmap file dialog, automatic is InputGamma value from currentdefaults file. If after exposure fixing your old bimaps doesn't look right, they may need to change their input gamma via the override value.

                              FStormCamera (and render setup, for views) can change render gamma too, via the tone mapping rollout.

                                Sylk.. thxs for being so helpful. i noticed that changing the gamma to 2.2 from 1.0 in the Tone Settings or even in the fstorm camera changing the gamma there to 2.2 from 1.0 does lighten up the igame like normal. Is this the wrong way to go about it? should i leave those at 1.0 and do the adjustment at the material level?
